New from Yoga Connexus: The Eight Limbs of Yoga

The expanded second edition of The Eight Limbs of Yoga: A Reflective Guide for Living, Leadership, and Social Justice is now available in print paperback and ebook from Lulu.com, and Amazon Kindle.

This reflective guide explores yoga beyond poses through ethics, breath, awareness, relationship, leadership, and social justice.

Yoga & Social Justice

“On this path no effort is wasted and there is no failure” ~Bhagavad Gita

The Path of Yoga

Yoga Connexus, LLC works in the intersection of yoga & social justice. We offer yoga & social justice leadership development as well as technical assistance for nonprofit and social justice organizations.

What is Yoga?

Yoga is a spiritual practice that aims at liberation — individual and collective liberation

Tree of Yoga - Eight Limb Yoga Practice

Yoga originated from the Saraswati and Indus River Valleys, in what is now known as India and Pakistan, and was codified in South Asia and Africa. Yoga’s roots are in South Asia and yet anyone can practice yoga — it is compatible with any belief system.

Yoga is for everyone.

Despite its popularity as a physical practice in the US and many Global North nations, yoga is not a workout. It is an eight-limbed practice that encompasses ethics, personal observances, postures (what most people think of when they think of “yoga”), control of the breath, withdrawal of the senses, concentration, meditation, and liberation. You can learn more about this practice starting from the Eight Limbs of Yoga Dharma Talk.

Yoga Social Justice

Unfortunately, yoga is not always the panacea we’d like it to be.

Yoga Social Justice: Acceptance, Awareness, Advocacy, Love

Yoga Social Justice reclaims yoga as a interfaith spiritual practice rooted in South Asia—one that was always aimed at liberation, not just flexibility. It also asks us to be honest about harm within the modern yoga world: including the abuse, cult dynamics, and unchecked power that continue to thrive behind the scenes of teacher trainings and wellness spaces.

We believe it’s time to question whether current systems—like yoga teacher registration—truly protect us. Spoiler: they often don’t.

You can explore more about decolonizing yoga, preventing abuse, and practicing with integrity in the Connecting Yoga and Social Justice section of this site.

At the same time, yoga remains a powerful resource for those working toward justice. Many of the world’s most courageous changemakers have used yoga—movement, breath, stillness, and spiritual practice—as a source of resilience, clarity, and connection. And so can we. Yoga Connexus offers a Practice Library with many types of practices, not just asana sequences, for all levels of practitioners.

Your yoga doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.

We need more yoga and social justice leaders! Why? True participation, true democracy requires that everyone be ready to lead. We can no longer pin our hopes and dreams, or even our basic needs, on just one person or one group of people to lead us. Yoga was made for this moment. Yoga Connexus can help you build the tools you need to take care of yourself and serve your community.

This isn’t a launch. It’s a beginning.
Two new offerings are unfolding at Yoga Connexus—one for facilitators, one for teachers. Both are rooted in justice, embodiment, and care. Yoga Leadership Pathways and unYTT are two offerings built for real life, real bodies, and real questions.
